I’m real excited about how my latest Model 14 laminate turned out, I made it purely for inventory which is a rare occurrence these days. I’ve been shedding on an odd meter tune I wrote recently (here’s the chart) and decided to make a little youtube video with the guitar. I recorded a rhythm backing […]

Another huge blog post here- continuing with construction phase stuff through coloring / finishing all the way to hardware assembly and install. At this point the guitars are all strung up (YESSS!!!) and settling in. Just need to do final fretwork and setup / tweaking and they will be ready to ship. Photo finals coming […]

Lots of progress on all the projects in the shop. Been working tons of hours on things and it’s shaping up and looking good. Many various stages here- bracing, rim work, neck mounting, glue ups, and wood binding installation. Next up- complete sanding and prep, then staining and painting. The archtop building process is LONG […]

So the catch 22 with hollow archtop guitars is the more the carved guitar is voiced for maximum resonance, the more it is susceptible to feedback problems at high volume. This is because the wood not only responds to its own string vibration, but also to anything around it (bass player, drummer or even a […]

Shipped out a couple guitars this week to their new owners. Suuuuuper fun guitars to make, its hard to see them go after all that is involved. Thankfully i have plenty of other guitars to shift my focus to haha! My camera was a bit out of focus on a few of these, kind of […]

Had a BLAST doing the headstock inlay on number 300. Super fun watching it come together. It took a lot of planning and scheming to get all the pieces to fall into place with the right layering. It was super dicey cutting through the brass sections with that tiny .015 diameter detailing bit. I just […]

Been doing a lot of tweaking on Gilad’s new guitar! He’s been traveling for the last several weeks and left his new axe with me to tweak and adjust. The longer you wait before making final adjustments on a new guitar, the more likely the guitar has finished reacting / settling to the new tension […]

Man where does the time go? I’ve started work on my 300th guitar this month along with 2 other spring projects. I started making my first guitar back in 1998, and if you would have told me then that in 2013 i would be starting my 300 guitar i would have called you a dreamer. […]

I’ve made a lot of progress on my late winter projects. This post shows a lot of the binding work for the guitars. I used really bright European maple for a nice contrast, almost like white binding. Takes a LOT of work to bend the multiple layers just right and get it cleanly in place. […]

Here’s a chambered model 14 that I just finished up for my client JK in Toronto. Great little guitar with a tiger eye stained spruce top. I’ll never get tired of seeing how the relatively plain looking Sitka spruce suddenly explodes with various figure and pattern when stained. The mahogany back and Spanish cedar neck […]

Here’s the latest instrument I’ve made for Gilad! It’s a model 15 with some tweak we came up with for an alternate and different sound Gilad was looking for. Gilads first guitar has been in service for quite a while and has a fantastic well balanced electric jazz tone. For this guitar he was looking […]

YESSSS!!!! I love how the spruce top reacts to the staining process. Looks like lightning strikes through the wood or something! Very organic and earthy vibe, mother nature does all the work on getting these finishes looking sweet.
