Its always a blast when I have a special project in the shop, and this guitar definitely qualifies. From stem to stern this guitar has it “goin on!”. Starting from the top it has my inlay interpretation of an Alphonse Mucha painting (not sure of the title) done with pearl and various stained woods. I also did a […]

This great Model 16 laminate just shipped to live in sunny Florida! SUPER heavy flame faces on this one. Smaller body depth for a comfy feel. The Peter Bernstein style pickguards are very popular right now. Having the controls that close is definitely convenient. The sound was very crisp and defined with the maple faces […]

Here’s another Model 14 from the spring batch of guitars. This one is going to my client Robert and is a semi hollow with a small inner block. Very similar to the full hollow version I did at the same time for Martin Snow. I dig the satin finishes with the violin brown stain, looks […]

Here’s the guitar Ive been working on for Martin! Shipped out to live down south the other day. This is a fully hollow version for a more acoustic archtop vibe. I gotta say the smaller instruments are my favorite. Tight punchy tone but still with the archtop vibe. The ones with the center blocks have […]

These pics are a little late arriving, I thought I lost them. But they surfaced thankfully- yes! This is the guitar I made for Jan Sturiale in Italy. Great little guitar I had fun playing it for a while. Jan is a great player in Italy, I did a showcase page for him here. I’m […]

Lot’s of finish work this week on the spring projects. The stain and lacquer are flying! Not a gargantuan post this time since there were lots of days of plain old sanding. But some good shots of the real knockout wood that has been revealed by the stain and lacquer. Intense!!!

Another huge week of progress on all the spring archtop guitars. Man its getting good! Assembly is complete and when the first wash coats of stain and sealer hits the wood its definitely a cool moment. There were some oohs and ahhs all around with this run. The spalted maple top Mini’s look really cool. Super […]

Heres a cool little Model 14 archtop for Edu in Ecuador. Compact, small and comfy. 14’s are great! All carved woods with a floating center block (smaller version). These make the guitars much more versatile since feedback is greatly controlled. But the small block size keeps the interior mostly air. I do two sizes, and the […]

Here’s a cool archtop guitar that I initially made to have as an inventory offering. Mike Bravos was visiting NYC and by chance I was just finishing it up. He decided to scoop it up after playing it for a while. The guitar has some really special bearclaw spruce for the soundboard that I had for […]

Here are the photo finals for Dave Mosick’s ergo! This guitar has gone through an evolution and I’m very pleased with the results. The previous 2 versions of the ergo (here’s No1, Heres No 2) have had the larger JCustom bridge. While that bridge is a good solution when theres not much out there for […]

Heres a special guitar that went out several weeks back to my guy Tyrone Lancaster in Las Vegas. This is definitely one of my fav’s- it has a great spruce top with lots of active grain patterns and figure. Full flame maple binding throughout. But the special thing about this one is the quilted mahogany […]
