Been doing a lot of tweaking on Gilad’s new guitar! He’s been traveling for the last several weeks and left his new axe with me to tweak and adjust. The longer you wait before making final adjustments on a new guitar, the more likely the guitar has finished reacting / settling to the new tension […]

I’ve made a lot of progress on my late winter projects. This post shows a lot of the binding work for the guitars. I used really bright European maple for a nice contrast, almost like white binding. Takes a LOT of work to bend the multiple layers just right and get it cleanly in place. […]

Here’s a chambered model 14 that I just finished up for my client JK in Toronto. Great little guitar with a tiger eye stained spruce top. I’ll never get tired of seeing how the relatively plain looking Sitka spruce suddenly explodes with various figure and pattern when stained. The mahogany back and Spanish cedar neck […]

Here’s the latest instrument I’ve made for Gilad! It’s a model 15 with some tweak we came up with for an alternate and different sound Gilad was looking for. Gilads first guitar has been in service for quite a while and has a fantastic well balanced electric jazz tone. For this guitar he was looking […]

YESSSS!!!! I love how the spruce top reacts to the staining process. Looks like lightning strikes through the wood or something! Very organic and earthy vibe, mother nature does all the work on getting these finishes looking sweet.

My other guitars in progress are in Patrick’s hands at the moment for clear coats, he’s doing great-they are turning out fantastic (see below). So in the interim i put some time in on the roughing work on my next guitars. Some interesting stuff here- A thinline model 15 for Donato Soviero, a Model 16 […]

Continued work on these projects. Some cool stuff to see is the OM inlay for Gilad’s fretboard, serial engraving, side bending, etc. Check out the deep earthy staining! I’m using really fine European cello tonewood here throughout. During carving I ran into a hidden defect on Gilad’s backplate. We talked about it and decided to […]

Heres a guitar that I originally built as an extra instrument for Patrick (my assistant in training) to work on. Pat’s story is coming soon, but in a nutshell its been many years since I’ve had a good assistant, and this young guy shows some promise. The first thing i concentrate on with assistants is […]

Here’s a guitar I have available. Its is very unusual for me to have an instrument in stock ready for immediate delivery, I am usually always working on commissioned work. Not sure when i will have a guitar in stock again. It was originally commissioned by my client Bryce Sutherland. Turns out another Model 14 […]

Here’s a trio track i recorded the other day with some friends. Its one of my original tunes yet to be titled. I have a great recipe for laminate guitars, i really am pleased with the tone. Not all laminate plates are created equal! I use high quality maple plys for each layer, as well […]

Here’s a guitar that is an “extra” project thats been around the shop. I have a new assistant (his name is Patrick- introduction coming soon), and I’m showing him the ropes on a bunch of things. We need stuff for him to work on, so i decided to put a 335 style guitar through the […]

Well its been completely nuts here at the shop working to complete my fall projects, which are just about all wrapped up. I should have all those instruments finished and delivered within the week. Not to let anyone think i’ve been sitting idle otherwise (haha!), heres the first of my winter projects that i’m doing. […]

I finished the majority of clear lacquer coats on the guitars about 2 weeks ago, and they are looking great. I started polishing the guitars earlier this week and decided that a couple more coats was in order. They will take a few more days to harden up again and i will get back to […]

All four of the guitars I’ve been working on came together quite well, and are all sanded out ready for paint. One guitar will be a tiger eye finish like this, two will be winebursts like this (initial ground stain shown here- more color work coming up), and the forth will be a dark green […]
